You may have heard that DIY silk plaster liquid wallpaper is a simple DIY project. I suppose you're right. However, here are some suggestions on what to do and how, when you're ready to start your house renovation.
We must first inspect the surface you intend to cover with the liquid wallpaper. Given that it may be used on virtually any surface, silk plaster is quite universal. To do that, though, you must first identify the surface and get it ready for more work.
Step 1: Prepare the wall's surface.
Nowadays, drywall is frequently utilized to build interior partitions. Screws are used to secure the sheets, and gypsum paste is used to align the seams. Any interior solutions can be made in a rapid and affordable manner in this manner.
First, you must apply an impregnation or solution of the exclusive Silk Plaster primer to the entire surface. After that, add two layers of the original Silk Plaster primer. Apply the primer in advance to a few tiny test areas to determine how it will be applied to the walls. We advise gypsum mixtures to be applied to the walls in order to achieve the best results while applying liquid wallpaper.
Any surface must be degreased and leveled before applying liquid wallpaper, especially a surface containing metal components. Silk Plaster primer must also be applied to any protruding or flat metal components, such as lighting fixtures, electrical panels, reinforcing bars, or ducts. In addition, keep in mind that electrical nodes require continual access; for this reason, we advise against plastering or painting over them.
Since partial dyeing in vivid colors is one of the most often used interior design options, partially painted walls are frequently encountered. You can give the impression that the room is larger by using several colours. After the liquid wallpaper has dried, it's crucial to avoid the appearance of a smooth color transition (the so-called "waterline").
We advise using two coats of Silk Plaster as a primer on the surface before painting it to make it white. We advise that you prepare the walls with gypsum mixtures in order to get the best results while applying liquid wallpaper.
Locally, materials like plywood, fiberboard, and MDF are used to create entrances, arches, and mezzanines among other interior solutions. On wooden surfaces, liquid wallpaper can be used to ensure that they are correctly secured and moisture-free. Additionally, it is important to keep in mind that the possibility of a sheet deforming increases with its thickness.
Before applying liquid wallpaper to such surfaces, we advise priming them with a specialized Silk Plaster primer in 2-3 coats while moving longitudinally and transversely.
Dealing with plain concrete or brick walls that have been plastered could present challenges. Because of their extreme absorbency, water-based paints have a difficult time adhering to such surfaces. Even after 20 coats of paint, the surface will not be as white as you need it to be.
The best course of action in this situation would be to smooth the surface, apply gypsum mixtures to the wall, and fill the pores with the substance. Put two layers of Silk Plaster primer on after that. This will prevent concrete from absorbing paint. The employment of any materials is challenging if the concrete wall is first flimsy, strongly peels off, or crumbles because adhesion is essentially nonexistent. We advise first plastering the walls with particular compounds before applying liquid wallpaper for the best results. You must use the industry-standard strengthening primer from any manufacturer.
Finally, Oriented Strand Board (OSB), a multilayer structural material whose primary component is bonded and pressed wood fiber. Before applying liquid wallpaper, the surface must be prepared with extra care. We strongly advise purchasing a ready-made version with drywall sheathing on the walls or sheathing the walls yourself.Due to its high level of moisture resistance.
OSB can come in two types: low density for inside house partitions and high density for exterior decorating. A dish of this kind might be used as outdoor décor. We advise utilizing moisture-resistant boards for exterior and interior decorating when designing dividers because they are more adaptable. Such plates should be coated with water-based paint or a primer before being plastered with gypsum mixtures.Step 2: Primer
When the surface is ready—dry, smooth, clean, monochromatic white, devoid of stains and dust—you may apply a deep penetration primer to it. In order to completely cover the surface, apply two layers of Silk plaster primer. There is a 24-hour drying period in between layers of treatment.
Please take note that ornamental Silk plaster plasters should be put 24 hours after the second layer of Silk plaster primer.
Step 3: Making the material ready
Fill a plastic container with clean, room-temperature (20–25 degrees Celsius), impurity-free water. Each variety of ornamental plaster's water requirement is listed on the container.
Then, add the package's contents to the water. If desired, sprinkle the surface with glitter and/or other ornamental elements.
Please take note that each type of glitter and additive must be bought separately.
To prevent glue clumps, properly mix the mixture by hand. According to the label on the container, you should use a drill with a mixer nozzle to mix some ingredients.
Note: It is not permitted to mix portions of one product.
Mix multiple packages of Silk plaster at once if you need to.
The material from the same mix should completely cover one wall (surface).
The substance should be placed in a plastic bag and kept for 12 hours.
Step 4: Application
Make sure the material has been well mixed by hand before use. Some substances need to be blended using a drill equipped with a mixer nozzle. Apply little amounts of the combined substance from one's kneading uniformly around the surface using a plastic trowel.
After an hour or two, trowel the surface while moistening it with water. After soaking, the material must be used within 48 hours. The air in the space shouldn't be any colder than 15 degrees Celsius, and the humidity shouldn't be higher than 70%.
Apply Silk plaster varnish to the surface to boost longevity and the likelihood of future wet washing.
